"We decided to create an embroidery. At the top of the piece, you can see how it used to be: beautiful green and full of life. At the bottom, you can see how it is now. You might not notice it right away, but if you look a little closer, you will quickly realize that the environment is in really bad shape.
We were inspired by artist Joseph Beuys. He mainly created performance art, artworks with a deep meaning. We tried to convey this with our embroidery. Beuys often incorporated objects into his work; you can see this in our work in the beads that have been added in some places.
These beads symbolize that the world is full of obstacles, and that they will not simply disappear. In our case, this represents the serious pollution of the climate, which can no longer be undone. Nevertheless, together we can prevent even worse damage.
We have also adopted his idea of color use and symbolism. For this, we mainly used the colors red, green, yellow, gray, and blue. Red represents fire and danger, green symbolizes nature, yellow represents the fat that Beuys used in his work to indicate life, gray symbolizes the rawness and incompleteness of the situation, and blue represents water."
