Tentacles of Industry by Ewelina, Lieke, Quinten & Owen, clay sculpture, 2025. Photo: Ced'art Tamasala & Alphonse Bukumba / CATPC.

"This sculpture depicts an octopus holding a part of a factory. It clamps it firmly between its tentacles. The octopus symbolizes not only animals, but also humans and nature, which have been affected in recent years by industrialization and the deterioration of the earth's resources. The object—the part held by the octopus—represents the ever-growing influence of industry.

Our inspiration came from concerns about the future. At the moment, major decisions are being made about the location of two nuclear power plants in Zeeland.

Although Zeeland may be seen as a “suitable location” for new nuclear power plants, their actual construction will have far-reaching consequences. People will have to leave their homes, and valuable parts of the environment will disappear. With this image, we want to make those tensions visible: the struggle between nature, humans, and industry. Who ultimately has control? It is both a warning and a call for awareness."
