"Our artwork is about judgment and negativity in society. In our video, we show how people judge each other based on appearance, behaviour and online presence, and how this can affect someone's self-image and mental health.
We were inspired by situations we experience ourselves or see around us in society. In everyday life, at school and especially on social media, we notice how quickly people judge without really knowing someone. We also saw how social pressure and negative comments can make someone feel insecure. This inspired us to create a work of art about this in the form of a video. The artist who inspired us is Khalil Joseph. What appeals to us most in his work is his use of symbolism, strong visual contrasts and the way he connects personal stories to broader social themes.
In our video, we use symbols such as eyes (as a sign of constant judgment), pointing fingers (as a symbol of unjust accusations and criticism) and a closed space (which expresses the feeling of imprisonment by judgment and negativity). The main character feels small, invisible and overwhelmed. But over time, the video also shows a change: the person finds strength, dares to be themselves and breaks free from all negative thoughts.
The message of our work is that everyone has the right to be themselves, without having to conform to what others think. Judgement and negativity can feel heavy, but it is possible to break free from them. With our video, we want to make people think about their words and behaviour – especially online. We hope to inspire others to be kinder and more understanding."
